Summer patio styling
Living in Houston we spend a lot of the summer outside around the pool. With children and pets I recommend keeping outdoor styling minimal because, realistically, most accessories will end up on the floor at some point. Here are my essential summer patio styling items that are both beautiful and functional for families.
Sofa and occasional tables
These are the bones of your patio. I prefer keeping outdoor furniture neutral while adding color and pattern through textiles.
Pillows and rug
When choosing textiles I recommend sticking to three colors so it looks cohesive, and incorporating different patterns and scales to keep it interesting.
Plants
I love using snake plant (sanseveieria trifasciata) both indoor and out because it’s nearly indestructible. My other favorite is the zz plant. Use a variety of succulents since they can withstand hot summers and continue to thrive even if they’re not watered for a week (or month) or two.
Pretty accessories
Trays help make collections of items on the coffee table cohesive. You’ll usually find my outdoor coffee table accessorized with plants, a citronella candle or incense to help repel mosquitoes, and beverages for the kids and adults.
People
The most important elements in your summer patio are the people who you love to spend time with. I’m looking forward to a peaceful summer on our patio filled with family and friends.
