Modern Eclectic Remodel

Our Modern Eclectic remodel project integrated our client’s style into their luxurious new addition while staying cohesive with the home’s more traditional architecture in the remodeled spaces.

For this full home addition and remodel in the Grogans Point neighborhood of The Woodlands, TX, we added a new kitchen, breakfast room, primary bath, laundry room, and reimagined the existing entryway, dining room, and office.

Entryway

The entryway links the new, more modern spaces of the home to the original, more traditional architecture, so we wanted a space that felt refined and cohesive between the two portions of the home. We designed custom 8′ doors to create a grand entrance. The original home had reeded trim around many of the doors and windows, serving as inspiration for the modern grid reeded trim accent wall bordering the stairwell. The stair runner from Stark Carpet features a grayish blue pattern that perfectly ties together the blue dining room to the dramatic black kitchen. We also carried black throughout from the front door, to the iron stair railing, to hardware, and the kitchen to create a cohesive color palette through all the spaces. The clients, who have four poodles, found the adorable poodle door knocker that helps to personalize the space.

Dining Room

Peeking in from the entryway is the stunning blue dining room. We selected blue to tie into the client’s existing artwork and complement the centerpiece of the room, the antique burl dining set. We loved incorporating unexpected accents like the copper-hued tin ceiling and modernized the space with Stroheim window treatments to make the space feel layered and interesting.

Office

Opposite the blue dining room sits the office, so we carried the blue into the space with the stunning quartzite counters running up behind the workspace. We landed on an L-shaped desk configuration to maximize work space and also leave ample space for the grand piano.

Kitchen and Breakfast room

The modern black kitchen is the most dramatic space we designed in the home. The goal was to create a modern space with functional solutions. The design centers around the beautiful quartzite slab that we wrapped up the backsplash and around the vent hood. We carried the reeded trim detail from the original house to the kitchen with a white oak reeded accent on the face of the island. We used the same materials into the breakfast room to tie these bold, beautiful spaces together, and create the feel of a grand, gourmet kitchen.

Primary Bathroom

The primary bathroom was the first space we designed in the Modern Eclectic remodel. The bathroom is defined by clean, modern lines, and organic materials. Beyond the beautiful tub from Native Trails, our favorite element is the neutral terrazzo tile that ties together all the materials in the space.

Laundry Room

Laundry rooms are a great opportunity to go bold with design choices, and the client did just that with the beautiful green quartzite slab. We incorporated ample storage and hidden drying racks to create a space filled with functional, smart solutions. The bold green cabinets accented by knurled brass pulls add to the sleek, modern feel. The Roman shades made with Kravet fabric are both functional for privacy, and add visual interest to this tone-on-tone space.
