Interior Designer Melissa Trivette Design Process DuLany Design The Woodlands

Welcome

Welcome to DuLany Design. My name is Melissa. I’m 37, wife of 11 years, mom to three kiddos and one big puppy, and 15 year corporate marketing veteran.  We have been living our best life in The Woodlands, TX for 10 years.

While living in Charlotte, NC, my husband and I embarked on our first renovation. We took a 100-year old 1200 square foot mill house and added a second story, doubling the size of the house. Other than the framing, electric and plumbing, we did everything ourselves from trim-work, flooring, painting, to installing the metal roof. The house was a product of our literal blood, sweat and tears, and I learned what I do and don’t like in home design. Our second renovation is our current home in The Woodlands, TX. While this home hasn’t needed as much structural work, we’ve given it a complete aesthetic overhaul. The carpeted bathrooms and peach polka dot wallpaper are no more. We replaced the roof, windows, flooring, painted, and renovated the kitchen and master bath. Not satisfied with the contractor bids I received, I played the part of general contractor and interior designer for our renovations. It is through our current home that I’ve refined my design aesthetic and solidified my love for home renovation and interior design.

The past two years have been a whirlwind. When my employer informed me I was being laid off, I began to question my priorities. Did I want to go back to another corporate marketing job where I was just going through the motions, or take this opportunity to pursue something that gives me purpose?

I’ve come across the following quote over and over again this year, “Not all storms come to disrupt your life, some come to clear your path.” I certainly wouldn’t have had the courage to leave my corporate path before being laid off. It was too “safe” and too “comfortable.” I now realize it was neither. It was initially hard, but I now realize being laid off was the best thing that could’ve happened to me and my family.

Not all storms come to disrupt your life, some come to clear your path.

2021 taught me the importance of setting boundaries, prioritizing my family and health, and identifying my “why.” While I’ve spent my career doing the latter for brands and companies, it was a much harder task to look inward and identify what drives me and gives me passion and purpose.

I prioritize helping others find comfort and feel at peace. I’m starting DuLany Design because I love creating livable design solutions that help you feel at peace in your place. With attention and care, DuLany Design will transform your place into a beautiful, comfortable, hard-working home.

On the DuLany Design blog I’ll share design projects, learnings, and my wellness journey. My goal for this space is to help you feel comforted and cared for. Thanks for joining me on this journey.
