Primary bathroom remodel
This primary bathroom has come a long way since those early days of carpet and yellowed cultured marble. After seven years of tackling more critical home updates like windows, roofing, and HVAC, I was ecstatic to finally bring my primary bathroom remodel vision to life.
Tile
All tile was purchased from Floor and Décor. We paired classic white subway wall tiles with 12×18 porcelain floor tiles and 1” marble penny tile accents. When mixing different types of tiles, the key is for them to complement and not match. You can accomplish this by using a consistent color scheme and mixing large format with smaller tiles in various shapes.
Layout
The bathroom already had a good flow, so we kept the layout as is. If an option, not moving plumbing is a great way to minimize labor costs, especially if your home is on a slab.

We opened up the dark, cavernous shower enclosure, and built custom shelves to maximize closet storage. I highly recommend hiring a carpenter to custom build your closet vs. buying an off the shelf product. Our closets each measure 5×5, so it was critical to make every inch count.
Materials and fixtures
We mixed Delta’s Trinsic widespread bathroom faucet, tub filler and towel ring with Vero shower trim kit/shower head, slide bar/hand shower, and shower handle fixtures. I love how easily you can mix different lines of Delta’s products for a cohesive, high-end look at a fraction of the price of other brands.
The vanities are from Restoration Hardware. Vanity lighting, tub and chandelier are from Amazon. Towels are from The Bali Market. We used my favorite white, Chantilly Lace, on the walls, and Platinum at 50% on the doors, both by Benjamin Moore.
The Result
For less than $25,000 labor and materials, we transformed this dark, 1980s carpeted bathroom to a light, open, peaceful space.
With any renovation, take your time and always TRUST YOUR GUT on design decisions. Don’t talk yourself out of a choice just because there’s a more convenient option. If you choose materials and finishes you love, you will always love your space.
