My first High Point Market
I attended my first High Point Market (HPMKT) this year and it did not disappoint. The best way to describe HPMKT is a mix of Disney World and Las Vegas – It’s the happiest party on earth for designers.
Insider’s Tour
HPMKT offers an Insider’s Tour for first-time attendees. The tour was by far my favorite experience. The tour guides coordinated logistics, took us to their favorite spots, and organized tours with the various showrooms we visited. It also provided an opportunity to meet and build relationships with other new designers. I was inspired and motivated by the designers’ stories, and enjoyed chatting about each other’s challenges and successes.
Planning
With approximately 2000 exhibitors spread across 13 city blocks, I felt overwhelmed when deciding who to see and where to go. I had a handful of existing trade accounts going into Market, but beyond that, no idea where to start. The interior design community on Instagram was gracious and helpful in my planning. I contacted a couple designers I admire for guidance, and they responded with their go-to showrooms.
I also relied on HPMKT’s MyMarket planning tool to create my Market itinerary. You can search for and favorite showrooms, and sort by neighborhood, building, and shuttle stop. The MyMarket planning tool streamlined my itinerary and logistics for day two when I navigated on my own.
Duration
While I visited every showroom on my list, two days didn’t leave time for educational sessions, tours, or celebrations. The next trip I’ll allow three days to better take advantage of the experiences Market has to offer.
Value
For my first High Point Market I wanted to start building my tribe, learn about the industry, and find exceptional furnishings for my clients while building trade partner relationships. I accomplished that and more, and can’t wait to channel the learnings and resources into my business to further elevate my client’s experience.
