Family-friendly living space
Our family spends the majority of our time at home in the living room. This space doesn’t just serve for lounging; it’s the primary place for play and dining daily. Life gets hectic and messy, but these three family-friendly living room design solutions keep our living room livable.
Trays. Corralling items on trays doesn’t just help a space feel collected, it also has practical application by preventing things from getting knocked over. Trays on side tables add an extra level of defense against spilling drinks or snacks.
Rounded tables. Side and coffee tables are the perfect height to bump little heads running around the room. While any hard surface can cause injury, it’s easier to avoid a rounded edge and less likely to land a visit to the E.R. Upholstered coffee tables are another great option, but they tend to get very dirty, very fast if you regularly eat and drink in your living room.
Indoor/outdoor rugs. Gone are the days of indoor/outdoor rugs that look and feel like plastic. Indoor/outdoor rugs are a great option for families with small children and pets because they are so easy to clean. Spray with the hose by itself or with a little cleaner and indoor/outdoor rugs will come out looking as good as new. Dash and Albert rugs by Annie Selke are my go-to source for high-quality indoor/outdoor rugs.
