Best organic pillows: a comparison for healthier sleep

Why choosing an organic pillow matters

We spend nearly a third of our lives in bed, so the products we sleep on have a big impact on our overall quality of life. Pillows are in constant contact with our skin and airways, which makes choosing pillows made with organic ingredients an important part of creating a healthier home. Made without unnecessary chemicals or synthetic materials, organic pillows support better sleep while still offering the comfort we need.

Below, I’m sharing the best organic pillows that I regularly use in my design projects. These pillows balance quality, comfort, and a more mindful approach to rest.

What to look for in an organic pillow

When choosing an organic pillow, it’s important to consider how the pillow is actually made. Pay attention to third-party certifications that verify materials and processing, the type of fill used, and whether the pillow provides the right support for your sleep position. The best organic pillows balance certified natural materials with comfort, durability, and proper support for restful sleep.

Naturepedic

Naturepedic was founded in 2003 after the founder searched for an organic baby crib mattress for his grandson, but cousin’t find anything free from vinyl/PVC, polyurethane foam, and other harmful chemicals. Their mission is to transform the lives of their customers through safer, healthier sleep. Most of their products are manufactured in their GOTS-certified organic facility in Ohio, and the rest in GOTS-certified facilities overseas when domestic production isn’t an option.

Naturepedic offers the following bed pillow options:

  • Adjustable (shredded) organic latex pillow built with GOTS-certified cotton encasement and GOLS or FSC-certified latex. Offered in Soft, Medium and 2-in-1, which has a smooth stretch-knit cotton surface, while the other side features a fluffier, quilted organic cotton sateen surface.
  • Organic solid latex pillow built with a GOTS-certified cotton encasement and GOLS or FSC-certified latex.
  • PLA pillow built with an organic cotton stretch-knit encasement and PLA filling made from non-GMO sugarcane. Offered in standard or low-fill options ideal for stomach sleepers.

Obasan was founded in 1985 and believe that a good life starts with good nights. And good nights start with a bed that’s organic, handmade, sustainable and always comfortable. They use GOTS-certified organic cotton sourced from Peru, GOTS-certified organic wool sourced from Argentina, GOLS-certified organic rubber sourced from Sri Lanka, and Hutterite Down from Central Canada. Their products are handcrafted in Canada, and their mission is to create a company and culture that embodies the philosophy, “When you sleep well, you live well.”

Obasan offers the following bed pillow options:

  • Classic organic latex pillow built with GOLS-certified organic shredded latex and a GOTS-certified cotton encasement.
  • Deluxe organic latex and wool pillow built with GOLS-certified organic shredded latex, wrapped in organic wool to naturally regulate temperature and absorb moisture, and encased in GOTS-certified cotton.

How organic pillows support a healthier home

Choosing an organic pillow is a small decision that can make a meaningful difference in the quality of your sleep and health. When we’re mindful about the materials we bring into our bedrooms, we create spaces that truly work for us, not against us. I hope this comparison helps you feel confident choosing an organic pillow that supports better rest and a healthier home.
